ISO 9001:2000 Transition Planning

Representatives of TC 176, CASCO, IAF, and IATCA have agreed on consistent guidance for the implementation of ISO 9001:2000. The key elements of the cooperative agreement are: 1) Registration certificates may not be issued against the new standard until the final International Standard is published (expected in 4Q-2000). 2) Registrars may perform audits to the latest draft of ISO 9001:2000 prior to the publication of the International Standard (the DIS is available now; the FDIS is expected in 3Q-2000). 3) Certificates issued to ISO 9001/2/3:1994 will expire three years from the publication date of ISO 9001:2000 (organizations are encouraged to make the transition as soon as possible). 4) Registrars may continue to issue certificates to the 1994 standards for up to three years after publication of ISO 9001:2000; however, new and current registrations expire three years after ISO 9001:2000 is published.
