Occupational Health and Safety Management Standard

The proposal from British Standards Institution to create an ISO committee for an Occupational Health and Safety Management standard failed to receive the necessary two-thirds majority vote.

North America, China, and most of the European Union members voted against the BSI proposal.

However, OHS activity is continuing on other fronts. The International Labor Organization (ILO) is working on a document that companies and governments could use for guidance.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has accepted the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) as the secretariat for a new Z-10 committee to develop an OHS management standard for the United Sates.

BSI continues to offer BS 8800, a Guide to Occupational Health and Safety Management, as well as, registration to BS 18001, their Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series.
