Proposal to Simplify Lab Accreditation

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Cooperation for Laboratory Accreditation (NACLA) have proposed a partnership for a broadly recognized lab accreditation system.

According to NIST, the United States has about 50,000 testing labs and over 100 lab accreditation programs. Multiple accreditation audits may be required for a testing lab to satisfy government and industry programs.

The goal is to simplify the process for complying with domestic and foreign requirements. You can see the memorandum of understanding at http://www.ts.nist.gov.
