New ISO Guidance for Health Care Industry

The ISO 9004:2000-based guidance document for hospitals and other health care organizations has been approved for publication as an ISO Industry Workshop Agreement. This is the same document referred to in an earlier newsletter as an International Technical Agreement. The name for the ISO document category has changed from ITA to IWA.

An IWA is an alternative to full-fledged International Standards when swift development and publication takes priority. An ITA is developed in open workshops rather than through the ISO technical committee structure.

The health care IWA will include the full ISO 9004:2000 text, along with sector-specific guidance for the health care industry. When published, it will be available through the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG).
