Plans for AS9100:2016

A new edition of the ISO 9001 quality standard is expected in 2015. Since the AS9100 aerospace standard is based on ISO 9001, a revised version of AS9100 is planned for 2016. The AS9100 release date will depend on the publication date of ISO 9001:2015.

The stated goal of the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) is to release all the related AS9100 series standards, along with their deployment support materials and training, at the same time. The AS900 series of standards include:

  • AS9100: Quality management systems – Requirements for aviation, space, and defense organizations
  • AS9110: Quality management systems – Aerospace – Requirements for maintenance organizations
  • AS9120 – Quality management systems – Aerospace – Requirements for stockist distributors
  • AS9115 – Quality management systems – Requirements for aviation, space, and defense organizations – Deliverable software
  • AS9137 – Guidance for the application of Allied Quality Assurance Publication (AQAP) 2110 within a 9100 quality management system

In addition to incorporating the changes that will be in the next ISO 9001, the revised AS9100 is expected to  include changes to account for new and emerging international requirements, as well as, stakeholder inputs for additions, deletions, and changes. The proposed changes will be coordinated with the FAA, NASA, and DOD to ensure their continued recognition of the AS9100 standard.

The intent is to change requirements only if improvements are necessary based on user experience and to ensure a common interpretation by organizations, customers, and authorities. Changes to AS9100 will consider requests for clarification of the current standard to see if any rewording should be undertaken.
