ISO 45001 for OH&S

We announced in an October 2013 newsletter article that ISO is developing a standard for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) to replace the BSI standard OHSAS 18001:2007. The new ISO standard will be known as ISO 45001 and is expected to be published in 2016.

The proposed schedule for the development and publication of ISO 45001 is:

  • ISO/CD 45001 (Committee Draft) – May 2014
  • ISO/DIS 45001 (Draft International Standard) – February 2015
  • ISO/FDIS 45001 (Final Draft International Standard) – March 2016
  • ISO 45001 to be published in October 2016

ISO 45001 will follow the “High-Level Structure” format defined in Annex SL and being used for the revised editions of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 scheduled for publication next year. That clause structure is shown below:

2. Normative references

6. Planning
7. Support
