Energy Management

Improving energy performance and reducing energy costs is one of the most important tasks facing organizations throughout the world. ISO 50001, “Energy management systems – Requirements with guidance for use”, can help organizations with this activity.

ISO 50001 has gained in importance since its publication five years ago. In fact, nearly 7,000 organizations were certified to the standard by the end of 2014 (the latest survey results).

ISO 50001 specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and improving an energy management system. Its aim is to enable an organization to follow a systematic approach to achieve continual improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, use, and consumption.

After five years of existence, the time has come to revise ISO 50001 to ensure it remains a useful tool for all types of businesses and organizations around the world. Experts from nearly 30 countries recently met in Stockholm, Sweden, to discuss and advance the revision work.
